A good sized grey schist sculpture carved to depict Bodhisattva Maitreya standing on a plinth with his left hand lowered holding the bottle with the elixir of immortality, wearing long flowing robes draped across his left shoulder, his face with a serene expression with downcast eyes beneath gently arched brows, his hair tied in a topknot, with curls of hair cascading down to his shoulders, the chest adorned with various necklaces, with a plain circular nimbus, the pedestal carved as a pillared shrine with devotees. Gandhara: Circa 2nd-3rd century A.D. Maitreya is the Buddha of the future, who will be born to teach enlightenment in the next age. According to Mahayana teachings, a Buddha is first born as a bodhisattva, and then after many lifetimes, progresses on to Buddhahood. Une sculpture de bonne taille schiste gris taillée pour dépeindre le Bodhisattva Maitreya debout sur un socle avec sa main gauche abaissé tenant la bouteille avec l'élixir d'immortalité, porter des robes longues fluides drapées sur son épaule gauche, son visage avec une expression sereine avec des yeux baissés sous les sourcils légèrement arqués, ses cheveux attaché en une touffe, avec des boucles de cheveux en cascade sur ses épaules , la poitrine ornée de colliers différents, avec un nimbe circulaire ordinaire, le piédestal comme un sanctuaire piliers orné de dévots. Gandhara : Circa 2e-3e siècle A.D. Maitreya est le Bouddha du futur, qui naîtra pour enseigner l'éveil à l'ère suivante. Selon les enseignements du Mahayana, un Bouddha est né tout d'abord comme un bodhisattva et puis après beaucoup de vies, progresse vers la bouddhéité.
