Beaucoup à la consternation du Vatican, un environ 1500-2000 ans bible a été trouvé en Turquie, dans le Musée ethnographique d'Ankara.
Découvert et gardé secret en l'an 2000, le livre contient l'Évangile de Barnabé – un disciple du Christ – qui montre que Jésus a été crucifié pas, ni qu'il était le fils de Dieu, mais un prophète. Le livre appelle aussi apôtre Paul « L'imposteur ». Le livre prétend aussi que Jésus est monté au ciel vivant, et que Judas Iscariote fut crucifié à sa place.
Un rapport publié par le National turc dit que la Bible a été saisie dans une bande de contrebandiers dans une opération de la Méditerranée-zone. Le rapport indique que le gang a été inculpé de contrebande antiquités, les fouilles clandestines et la possession d'explosifs. The report states the gang was charged with smuggling antiquities, illegal excavations, and the possession of explosives. It is believed that, during the Council of Nicea, the Catholic Church hand-picked the gospels that form the Bible as we know it today; omitting the Gospel of Barnabas (among many others) in favor of the four canonical gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Many biblical texts have begun to surface over time, including those of the Dead Sea and Gnostic Gospels; but this book especially, seems to worry the Vatican.
